Dyshidrotic eczema

Management of identified primary causes is necessary (hyperhidrosis/dyshidrosis, allergens, fungal infections, bacterial infections). It should be emphasized that in many cases fungal and bacterial infections are of secondary character. Their treatment is also important but handling of dyshidrosis is the main target of therapy.

Topical therapy comprises

• short courses of topical corticosteroids to control severe outbreaks
  
• tanning agents (cream, lotion, gel, bath) and
  
• local tap water iontophoresis for 10 to 15 minutes. The latter is performed daily, then slowly reduced to 2 to 3 times a week if symtoms permit. For maintaining good results, it is advisable to continue tap water iontophoresis once a week, even if symptoms are cured.
